Should You Feel Different After Accepting Christ?
Scripture:
“He has identified us as his own by placing the Holy spirit in our
hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has
promised us.” 2 Corinthians 1:22
When you accept Jesus, should
you FEEL different? Some people have a big, emotional event while others
might grow in faith gradually. Emotions can be misleading, so let’s see
what the Bible says happens after you accept Jesus.
God Promises Us Eternal Life
“So
God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are
unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie...” Hebrews 6:18
God’s promise is that whoever
believes in Jesus has eternal life and is a child of God. (John 3:16,
John 1:12) God doesn’t lie, so we can trust his promises. Have you made the decision to accept Jesus as your Savior?
If you have, then God has sent His Holy Spirit to live in you. This is
based on God’s promise, not the way you feel after you accept Christ.
The Holy Spirit Guarantees We Belong to Christ
Jesus promised he would send you an “Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth...and will be in you.” (John 14:16-17)
But what does the Holy Spirit mean to you? The Holy Spirit is your
guarantee, or seal, that your hope in Jesus is secure. The Bible says, “When
you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy
Spirit who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance...” (Ephesians
1:13-14) When you place your faith in Jesus, the Holy Spirit
comes to live inside of you. It’s the Holy Spirit that guarantees you
belong to God, not a feeling!
God Makes Us New
After you accept Christ, you may not feel different, but the Bible says God makes us a brand new person! “...anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Then, the Holy Spirit helps you understand God’s word and gives you
power to live more like Jesus. If you have accepted Christ, let God do
His work in you! “I am
confident that God, who began the good work within you, will continue
his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus
returns.” (Philippians 1:6)
